VERA / Rome, 8 spaces, 54 studios

2021

'They are emotional spaces, explorers of possibilities'. This is how the philosopher Giuseppe Armogida defines the artist-run spaces that sprung up in Rome during the pandemic: plural environments where young artists not only work in their studios, but also confront each other, organise exhibitions, publish fanzines, and offer meetings and workshops at a fast pace, producing a creative energy not seen in the capital since the 1970s. A sort of tsunami of art that has invaded the entire city, recounted today by Vera, the volume edited by Damiana Leoni and published by Quodlibet: a mapping by text and photographic images of 8 independent spaces, 54 studios, 70 Italian artists and 7 neighbourhoods, defined as ‘the springtime of emerging art in the capital's suburbs’.

The catalogue includes Guglielmo Maggini's work.
