The wide selection for quantity and quality of names and works that has been made in this case (30 authors and 314 works), means that "Essere Umane" is candid to be the first and the most important in Italy and not only, as a wide-ranging international survey of historical, artistic and cultural value.
We are delighted to share Silvia Camporesi's new project “Essere umane. Le grandi fotografe raccontano il mondo”, a path for images dedicated to the great women photographers curated by Walter Guadagnini that will inaugurate at the Museums of San Domenico in Forlì on September 17 and will be open until January 30.
A journey through images in the evolution of the world’s photographic language, with a specific attention to the "feminine gaze", starting from the 1930s, when, thanks to the success of the first illustrated magazines, photography became the main language of contemporary communication.
In the exhibition, therefore, it will be possible to follow this evolution through the great war reports and changes in social customs, post-war reconstruction and gender issues, the rise of the consumer society and the observation of the role of women in countries outside the West.
The guiding idea was, in fact, to set up an unprecedented exhibition in Italy and beyond, dedicated to the work of the authors who, from the 1930s to the present, have interpreted photography as an instrument of investigation and reflection, with expressive registers sometimes poetic, in other cases more raw, on the great themes that have crossed the society in the different temporal segments of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century.
