Guglielmo Maggini & Adelisa Selimbašić | When In Rome

curated by Adriana Polveroni | AlbumArte
We are pleased to share the partecipation of Guglielmo Maggini and Adelisa Selimbašić in the exhibition WHEN IN ROME  curated by Adriana Polveroni.

The exhibition WHEN IN ROMEAl di là della periferia della pelle (Beyond the periphery of the skin), is the central stage of the itinerant project When in Rome which will be realized in seven Italian cities in collaboration with Adiacenze Bologna and Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, Accademia di Belle Arti di Frosinone, RUFA - Rome University of Fine Arts, La Casa degli Artisti Milano, Mucho Mas! Torino, Toast Project Space Firenze, Zona Rosa Napoli, CONDOTTO48 Roma.

When in Rome, abbreviated title from When in Rome do as Romans do, wants to make the verse to that attitude of foreigners who, arrived in Rome, learn to "do like a Roman" seduced by the charm of the city and its habits and is a tribute to a famous concert of Genesis in 2007.

At the heart of the project, the results of the survey conducted by Cristina Cobianchi and Adriana Polveroni on young talents under 35 working in Rome, especially in workplaces founded and managed with equally young curators in peripheral areas, in abandoned factories, former workshops or old garages, disused craft workshops, and that are changing the fabric and the artistic ferment of the Capital with their research open on the present and the dialogue to multiple voices.

The exhibition by Verdiana Bove, Guglielmo Maggini, Pietro Moretti, Caterina Sammartino and Adelisa Selimbašić follows their common reflection Beyond the periphery of the skin presents unpublished and site-specific works that investigate the theme of marginality, understood as "border that separates" exactly like the skin that delimits the body from the outside and that, at the same time, constitutes the first contact with the surrounding environment, the first possibility of knowledge. Even today, at a time when the body has undergone a radical transformation, placed at the center of various social and cultural tensions, the skin is what defines, and therefore primarily defines, the body.

Each artist involved in the project has his own original interpretation of the idea of "skin" and the drive to go "beyond the periphery of the skin". Beyond, therefore, the given boundaries. Not necessarily to overcome them in a kind of titanic tension, but perhaps to explore them in their marginality, in their being the periphery of a large decentralized body such as the same deep articulation, the inexhaustible alphabet of artistic practices.

"Beyond the periphery of the skin" indicates the need to place oneself in one’s own time, in the continence of one’s own being in the world, by initiating a confrontation with several voices. Applying this concept to Rome, often referred to as a Great Mother alternately holy and damned, the city is seen as a great organism, not without borders, the place of choice for observing, investigating, with unprecedented possibilities of work and unpublished interpretative paths.
