MARTA ROBERTI | L’ANIMALE CHE DUNQUE SONO

VIII edition | CURATED BY ARIANNA ROSICA AND GIANLUCA RICCIO

We are delighted to share the partecipation of Marta Roberti in the 8th edition of  L’animale che dunque sono curated by Arianna Rosica and Gianluca Riccio.

Villa San Michele and the historic centre of Anacapri will host works by Italian and International artists on the occasion of the VIII Edition of Festival del Paesaggio di Anacapri (Festival of the Landscape of Anacapri), a project created and curated by Arianna Rosica and Gianluca Riccio, promoted by the Association Il Rosaio – Arte e Cultura Contemporanea, organized with the Axel Munthe Foundation/Villa San Michele, and supported by Seda and Capri Palace Jumeirah, with the patronage of the Municipality of Anacapri.

The artists selected for the 2024 Edition, entitled L’ANIMALE CHE DUNQUE SONO (The animal that therefore I am), drawnfrom the essay by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida, are Claire Fontaine, Rä Di Martino, Jim Lambie, Liliana Moro, Giulia Piscitelli, Marta Roberti, Sissi and Emilio Vavarella who will present works which explore the meaning of being human in a world increasingly driven by artificial intelligence.

What does it mean to be a human being today? What makes us human in a world increasingly ruled by artificial agents? What distinguishes us from the animal in the general assertion of apparently irrational drives? Is it still possible to establish a boundary between man and animal?

L'ANIMALE CHE DUNQUE SONO attempts to answer these questions in an itinerary marked by site-specific installations, special projects and public art interventions, inviting us to reflect on the interconnections and complexity of the relationship between the human and animal worlds.

The curators aim to further develop the reflection on the relationship between artifice and nature, between man and animal, started with the exhibition Dioranimalia - which inaugurated the Olivetum Pavilion at Villa San Michele as a space entirely dedicated to contemporary art in March 2024 - and following Derrida's perspective oriented towards the deconstruction of an anthropocentric vision of the universe. The 2024 edition of the Festival invites us to look at the world with a new sensibility, unhinging the idea that it is made just for men and that the man has an hegemony over other living beings.
